With the programmes entitled “Thousand-year
arts, traditional dance and singing of Korea”
and “Viet Nam - Korea joining in traditional
art performances” at Hue Festival 2008, the
Korean presentation will be of great meaning,
which contribute to the friendship relation
between two countries Vietnam and Korea and
simultaneously bring the image of Korea being
rich of cultural identity to Vietnam.
The traditional art troupe of the National Center for Korean
Namdo Performing Arts will perform not only Korean traditional
music, but also Vietnamese traditional music with Korean
musical instruments.
Performances during Hue Festival 2008 include:
Sungjoopulri dance: This is a dance of sudden
inspiration accompanied with Sungjoopulri music, which is found
very popular to all Korean people. The form of dance is not rigid, but
rather takes a diversity of name and choreographed movements from
region to region.
Sinawi and Salpulri: Salpulri is a folk dance
deriving from shamanic rituals for driving away evil spirits.
Salpulri is performed to the accompaniment of sinawi music
(a traditional form of Korean music ensemble
including various Korean traditional
instruments like Piri, Deagum, Heagum and so on). Today,
it is considered one of Korea’s typical traditional dance forms.
Gopuly dance: Gopuly is a ritual which only
exists in Choenllado region. This dance expresses the query of
people to God about difficulties facing their lives.
Sogochum dance: This is a traditional small drum (Sogo)
dance of Korea. This dance may be slightly different and being
expressed in an exclusive feature according to regions.
Performance of Vietnamese traditional music with
Korean traditional musical instruments
PuChaeChum
(Fan dance):
This dance deriving from a
folkloric ritual dance. The special point of this dance lies in the
movement of fans and every choreographed movement of the dancers.
Pungmulnolri dance: This dance originated from
the old time performed in festivals and collective activities
during the harvest time to express their gratitude towards
Emperor Shen Nong for bestowing the main crop more abundant
than usual and pray for a better crop to come.
