The Blues singer - COCO YORK

Through the introduction of Consulate General of United States of America in Ho Chi Minh City, famous female singer- Coco York and instrumentalists will participate in Hue Festival 2008.

Born Guinevere Henry in Arkansas, USA, and nicknamed Coco because of her penchant for drinking hot chocolate, Coco received her music degree from Southern Louisiana before going on to study opera with Mattiwida Dobbs. After obtaining her Maters degree in Music she was engaged at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands as Professor of Music for thirteen years. She has also appeared in theatres, recorded and has had extensive Television and radio experience.


 

Her first professional appearances were in the clubs of the French Quarter of New Orleans where her passion for the blues and jazz were nurtured. From there, she travelled to Africa to learn the rhythm of her roots and the songs of her people. This African sojourn brought new dimensions to a singer already schooled in the classic, opera and the blues.

 Armed with a stunning vocal range and the ability to charm audiences with her enthralling music, Coco has shared stage with artists such as Clark Terry, Lionel Ritchie, and B. B. King. This talented artist has also performed for her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and twice for the former President of the United States, Bill Clinton.
